Dear Parents and Carers,
This week’s Senior Leader assembly was our Kilmorie Quality Cups Assembly where teachers nominate children from their classes to win each of the Kilmorie Quality Cups. A panel of senior leaders then select winners from the nominations. Each time we do this, it is always so hard as there are so many deserving winners. It is also a time that helps to remind us (not that we need much reminding) of all of the fantastic qualities our children here at Kilmorie hold. Please see below (Kilmorie Quality Cups box) for the winners, you can also view all the children who were nominated. Well done to you all.
Staffing changes: Kate’s secondment at Eliot Bank has come to an end. She has done a wonderful job at managing to be in two places and I know she was most appreciated for her work at Eliot Bank, but it is great she is back. We are also about to welcome Sarah N back from maternity leave. She will predominantly be working in years 5 & 6 which we are most excited about. Sadly, we will be saying goodbye next week to Susannah who has been working as a 1:1 support. She is about to embark on a career with MIND charity. This is a fantastic opportunity for her, and I am sure you will join me in wishing her all the best with her new venture.
Fruit and veg at school: you may have heard in the news that there is difficulty sourcing some fruit and vegetables. Chartwells have reassured us that they have a reliable supply chain, but will of course keep you up to date if anything changes.
Sickness bug: Some of you may be more aware than others that we currently have a sickness bug making its way around the school. We really need to try and stop it in its tracks and ask that you remind your child(ren) of the importance of good hand hygiene.
Parents evening: I hope you all found parents evening useful. I saw a number of you enjoying looking through the learning your child has participated in, with some having your child proudly explaining it to you too! These feedback evenings are an important way for us to share key information. However, we are also eager to understand how we can do things better. If you didn’t receive a questionnaire following your parent-teacher meeting please complete it online here. Thank you
Next week is Science Week at Kilmorie, and we will be celebrating this through a variety of activities across the school including an exciting science show, a carousel of investigations in each year group and a look at diversity in science linking to International Women’s Day on 8th March. The theme of this year’s British Science Week is ‘Connections’. If children would like to design a poster about any ‘Connections’ that appear in the world of science, we will send off our winning 5 to enter a UK-wide poster competition. Posters should be A4 or A3 size and need to be completed at home and brought in to school by Friday 17th March. Why not think about connections between animals, connections in construction, or even someone the children have connected with to inspire or help them?
World Book Day: Don’t forget next Friday is World Book Day at Kilmorie, and we are inviting children who would like to dress up, to come to school in either their pyjamas signifying a time to read or as their favourite book character. Do keep sending the photos of your child reading in a funny / silly / adventurous place. Click here if you wish to sign up to the special themed lunch - this form closes Sunday 5th March.
Smart Watches: Children are coming to school with smart watches on, which are distracting learning. For this reason, they are not allowed in school. If your child has a smart watch, please ensure it is left at home. Any children wearing a smart watch will have it confiscated by their teacher and it will only be returned to the parent.
Cherry trees: You may have noticed that we have two new trees in our playground, these are the ones that those of you who came to the big dig, prepared for. They need a lot of TLC to ensure they embed well, but I look forward to seeing them grow and bursting forth with colour. Thank you to Eva and Olly for organising this.
Strike Day: I am seeing a number of photos of different members of the public and parents joining the teachers strike yesterday, which I know from my staff was much appreciated. Do please note the proposed two days coming up later in March (15th & 16th March). I will write and confirm arrangements next week.
Whilst there is a nip in the air (and I hear rumours of snow next week?) the days are getting brighter and longer making us all feel that spring is (hopefully) just around the corner.
Wishing all our families a lovely weekend.
Kind regards
Julie
