Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you for your support with the reduction of space in the playground. Whilst this has been smaller than first anticipated, I believe they will need more space again when they start work on updating the hundred square.
This week has been a busy week with Bikeability training, Reception performances and themed lunch:
Our Year 3 children completed their Bikeability training. The programme is designed to make children more competent cyclists and prepare them for eventually cycling on roads. The training was carried out by Cycle Confident, the borough’s cycle training provider, and delivered by 2 fully accredited National Standards cycling instructors. The children really enjoyed the training, you can see some photos here. Thanks to Barnaby & Rhiannon, instructors from Cycle Confident.
Reception class performances of the Little Red Hen happened this week. The children thoroughly enjoyed doing our performances of ‘The Little Red Hen’ - reading the story and doing the actions. For those of you who have children in the older years, you will have noticed a bit of a change with the performance, some new animals have been introduced! There was a unicorn and a jaguar in this year's Tiger Class performance.
Thursday was our themed King's Coronation lunch. Sadly, due to the playground works we were unable to eat outside however, that did not stop everyone enjoying the delicious food, the special menu included tuna and cucumber sandwiches, potato wedges, followed by a delightful victoria sponge cake, with one child telling me they thought they were eating a lunch fit for a king!
Next week is the Year 6 SATs: Please can everyone be mindful that there may be some timetable changes and to ensure the week runs as smoothly as possible, lots of different staff are involved, meaning that responses to information and requests may take a little longer than normal. I am sure you will join me in wishing them lots of luck
Website class pages re-vamp: we have been looking at what information you as parents and carers need to know and how to make information as easy as possible to access on our website. This has led us to a class page revamp! Next week the Phase Assistant Headteachers will be proofing them with the aim to have the revised information uploaded next week. We will let you know when this has been done and as always, we welcome feedback.
Back in February we hosted a workshop for parents of children in year 5 and 6 about keeping children safe online. I also informed you that there would be a session organised by Athena (a service in Lewisham). This has now been confirmed, and the Tech Team will run a parent workshop about keeping your children safe online. The content will be around what risks young people are facing online, general gaming and social media safety to address those risks. This workshop will take place between 6-7pm here at Kilmorie in the main hall on 18th May. Do make a note in your diary, I am sure you will find it very supportive.
Early Phase Garden Party, Sat 13th May 11.30 – 14.30pm: We are all getting very excited about our Early Phase Garden Party. A massive well done to the children who drew posters to promote the event, it's been lovely spotting them dotted all over school this week.
We do still need more volunteers to ensure all games and stalls can go ahead, FoK are working hard with the Early Years team, and would be grateful if you can help by volunteering an hour of your time. All of the money raised from the garden party will go towards the cost of coaches for the Early Phase trip to Joss Bay in July, we're grateful for everyone's support and generosity. More information on the beach trip will follow.
Call for help: Benita would like to reach out to the school community for skilled tradespeople and/or DIY enthusiasts. There are several school projects pending to help repair and refresh some tired looking areas within the school. If you are willing and able to help during the school holidays, please contact Benita via email at sbm@kilmorie.lewisham.sch.uk or let her know if you see her on the school gate.
I am delighted to tell you that the Year 5 Girls' Cricket Team will represent Lewisham in the London Youth Games. The girls won all 3 of their games, and they secured a place in the final against Torridon, which they also won! What a fantastic achievement – I am so proud of all the girls for their hard work and dedication. Read the full article here.
I hope everyone enjoys our second bank holiday this month. If you would like to join a celebration, there are plenty of street parties happening in the area, see community news below.
I look forward to welcoming you all back on Tuesday 9th may.
Kind Regards
Julie
