Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you are all enjoying this lovely weather.
SLT assembly this week was all about celebrating children. Kate G, Conor and Jane led the assembly where the winners of the sports day races were given certificates and the winning team from the day was announced. Well done the black team!
Jane also took the opportunity to share the fabulous win from the Monday night girls’ football league – the first-place trophy is on its way (the engravers promised it would be ready before the end of the year). She also celebrated the netball team who took second place in a recent tournament.
The final celebration of the assembly was for our gold certificate in the London Children's Flower Society Summer Growing and the School Garden competitions. The judge was impressed with our gardens and the way the children play and interact with the plants particularly within the Wild Garden. She also loved our outdoor classroom in the Physic Garden and the variety of plants we have and how we use them to teach the children. A big thank you to all the children and parents/carers who took part and have helped with our gardens at our gardening events. Read the full article here.
The Early Years Beach trip was a huge success, not too hot, the sea was warm, and the rain stayed away until we all got on the coaches to come home! An enormous thank you to all the staff for their hard work and time organising it. It was lovely to see everyone have lots of fun – staff included! See photos here.
On Thursday, the children had their transition lesson with their new teacher, many of you also got to meet your child's new teacher during our open parents evening yesterday. It was lovely to see so many of you there and to see the children’s DT sustainable products that have been designed and made by the children during our Great Kilmorie Design Challenge, be snapped up. The monies raised will be kept and how it will be used will be decided by the Eco Committee in the autumn term. If you have not managed to purchase your child’s product, you still can if your child brings in the exact monies next week.
I hope you have now all had the time to read your child’s end of year report. Please confirm that you have received your child/ren’s report and share any feedback here.
To help the children to consolidate their learning about plants, habitats and the rainforests, year 2 visited Kew Gardens. The children had opportunities to see a range of different plants, and experience what a rainforest feels and looks like. Please see below quotes from the children, see photos here.
Millie - "My favourite part of Kew Gardens was the tree top walk because we went really high and it was just so fun to do!"
Matilda - "I loved the huge water lilies because they are so strong you can sit on them."
Bastille Day, the French National Day is next Friday 14th July. To celebrate, we are asking for children to come dressed in the colours of the French flag: blue, white and red on the day. The children will learn a little bit about what it is and why the French celebrate it . Nasrine has organised some activities for classes to take part in.
We have a very exciting week next week... the Lion King performances! This is a whole school production, and ALL children from Year 1 - 6 are part of it. We still need volunteers to be chaperones and to help with the makeup. If you are able to help please sign up here. All Costumes need to be in school too. Thank you
Friends of Kilmorie DREAMLAND Summer BBQ: Just one week to go, please see Friends News (below) to find out how you can help. They are still in need of more volunteers, if you can help, please do.
On Monday Dennis met with the Diversity Working Group for the first time. They discussed a range of points about developing the school's approach to both Inclusion and Diversity. They also highlighted the elements that Kilmorie does well, such as providing the children with a diverse curriculum. They remarked that the children are respectful of the diversities within our school and in the wider communities. They will be holding further meetings in the autumn term.
