Dear Parents and Carers,
The Kilmorie quality in this week's assemblies was curiosity. In Dennis’ Monday Assembly, he spoke about the importance of asking questions, finding out how things work and making improvements. He highlighted figures such as Alexander Fleming, Isaac Newton and Steve Jobs, whose curiosity led to scientific developments we use today. On Wednesday, he read “The Curious Garden” story to Reception and Year 1. The theme of the story was one of curiosity and discovery, as well as nature.
Chartwells will be serving up an ALL-AMERICAN themed lunch next Thursday 19th January. This will consist of burgers, hotdogs, milkshake and cookies, view the menu here. If your child normally has a packed lunch, but you would like them to have this themed meal instead please complete this form, before 12 noon on Monday 16th January.
Sadly, Jo and Kathryn, Friends of Kilmorie (FOK) Co-Chairs, stepped down from their roles at the end of December. Whilst there were a number of reasons for this, we are now urgently looking for someone who would be willing to take on the role of Chair, from now until at least the AGM in September. The role of Chair is extremely important and valuable – without a Chair, it will be difficult for FOK to organise the events that it usually does which may mean they have to be cancelled. Being the Chair does involve a time commitment, which is why it has been so successful when shared between two people. Both Jo and Kathryn will be around to facilitate a handover, and the remaining committee members have plenty of experience to support the incoming Chair(s). If you are interested or would like to know more, please contact FOK at friendsofkilmorie@hotmail.co.uk
Parents evening will be taking place throughout w/c 27th February. The meetings are in person at school, with Wednesday 1st March having slots till 18:50 for all classes. Other available times will be dependent on the teacher and will be shown at the time of booking. We are aware that for some, due to commitments, may wish to have a virtual meeting or telephone conversation, please let the teacher know, and they will organise accordingly. The booking in sheet will be made available soon, we will notify you when they are uploaded.
Parent Workshops: Last year’s survey highlighted that you would like to have support on ways we teach in school and how you can help at home. So, we will be starting with maths. I know many find maths more challenging to support at home due to methods / approaches changing since most of us were at school. It is also a development area for our school, supporting us to strengthen our capacity to work together, ensuring children get the most of out their academic journey at Kilmorie. We will be holding the workshops in phases across w/c 6th March. We plan to do the workshops in person as this enables us to support you in a more practical way; but we will of course ensure the PowerPoint and any links to resources are accessible for those unable to attend. In addition, we have a new home learning section on each year group page from Year 3 - Year 6.
Starting primary school in 2023 application deadline – don’t forget the deadline to submit your application is Sunday 15th January. More information is available on Lewisham website. Please be mindful that having a child in our nursery does not guarantee you a place in our reception and even with a sibling at Kilmorie, you need to apply on time to ensure your child gets a place.
On Monday (16th January) some of our Year 6 children will be representing Kilmorie in a Mixed Hall Sports Athletics Competition. Good luck to all the children representing Kilmorie and I look forward to hearing all about it upon their return. Thank you to Conor / Jane C for taking time to organise and support.
Wishing all our families a lovely weekend – let's hope today’s blue skies continue.
Kind regards
Julie
