Dear Parents and Carers,
As you are aware, this year we are going to be performing 'Finding Nemo the Musical' at Catford Broadway on the 9th and 10th July. We would really like your support in terms of helping with parent chaperones, hair, make-up, props, set and costumes. If you are able to support, please complete the form by clicking the link. Please sign up for as much as you can.
There was no whole school assembly this week due to the bank holiday, but we did have Butterflies wonderful class assembly. They shared a wealth of information about their topic on animals, the importance of looking after our world and things we could do. And what beautiful poems they had written too. It was great to see them work so collaboratively and lovely to see their enjoyment too – A fabulous class assembly Butterflies, well done.
We have had a couple of enrichment visits this week:
On Thursday, Jana’s class went to Deptford Creekside Discovery Centre. With the amazing guidance of Paddy and Sunday, students enjoyed examining artefacts from the river and assigning them into the associated professions. Then it was time to become the explorers! The students were very excited to put on their wading boots and explore the river beneath their feet. The Year 5’s specifically enjoyed sighting swans and performing in the duck race, which was a great way to test the current speed of the river. It was a really fun and successful trip!
Year 3 had the Fresh Water Theatre workshop on Thursday in support of their learning on Ancient Egypt. They met a trainee tour guide who, with the help of a professor, took us back to Ancient Egypt to unlock the secrets of an Ancient Egyptian tomb. They learnt all about four incredible characters, a stonemason, Tutunkhamun, Nefari the priest and even Anubis, God of the Dead. Each of them gave incredible insights into life in Ancient Egypt. It was highly interactive and the children loved helping the tour guide to break the spell of the tomb!
Please help: Whilst the mayor of London has given all primary aged children free school meals, it is important for our funding, that everyone who is eligible, is registered. This enables us to get the correct amount of funding into the school and as I am sure you are all aware, every penny is needed. Please can I ask that all families check if they are eligible by using this link Thank you.
Warmer weather: As we are having some lovely weather, I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that children’s shoulders and tummies need to be covered. It is also important that children are dressed for school and not the beach. Shoes need to be attached to the feet and suitable for children to able to safely do the daily mile.
Children are only allowed to wear stud earrings. Children wearing any other piece of jewellery, will be asked to remove it and it will be returned at the end of the day. Thank you for your support.
Next week our year 6 children will be taking their statutory assessment tests (SATs). They have been working very hard and are looking forward to being able to show all that they know. I am sure you will join me in wishing them the best of luck.
Next week is also Mental Health Awareness Week. The theme as set by the Mental Health Foundation is "Movement: moving for our mental health" and we all know that being physically active is great for our bodies and minds. Teachers will be doing activities in class during the week.
We are pleased to announce that we are running a half term Wrap Around Care play scheme in the May half term. We currently have some spaces available; if interested, please see more details outlined in the school news section of the newsletter.
I believe this weather is only staying for another day or two before the rain comes back, which is great news for our Early Years Garden party tomorrow. For those of you with younger children, I look forward to seeing you tomorrow at the Garden Party (details in the Friends section) but for all our other families, I look forward to welcoming you back on Monday.
Kind regards
Julie
