Dear Parents and Carers,
As we head towards the summer solstice, we are finally having some weather that feels more like summer, which was brilliantly timed for Sports day.
A massive thank you to Conor, Jane and Donnell for all the preparation and organisation of the day. There is so much work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure it runs smoothly and is as stress free as possible for everyone. I am sure you will join me in thanking you everyone. It was a huge success and a lovely day.
This week’s whole school assembly was led by Conor, our PE lead. He spoke about how to show the Kilmorie Qualities in sport and being a ‘good sport’. The children talked about ‘sportspersonship’ and looked at examples of how professional athletes put others ahead of themselves and in some cases, sacrificed their own success. They then talked about how we could all do and show this during our own sports day. And judging by yesterday, especially the races at the end, those qualities shone through.
Message from Conor: Thank you everyone for attending, helping and enjoying sports day on Wednesday. It was so nice to see so many children, parents and carers having fun in the sunshine during the sporting activities. Congratulations to everyone who took part, and we promise that next year Donell will not be allowed to race in the parents’ race!
Mobile phones in school: Please remember that children (in Years 5 and 6) should only be bringing a mobile phone in to school if the office has been informed about why this phone is needed. Phones must be switched off and put away before children come in the school gates and then handed in to class teachers as soon as they get to class. Children should not switch phones on at the end of the day until they have left the playground. If a child needs to check or use their phone before leaving, this must be done under the supervision of a school adult. If a child’s phone is found to be on while in school, it will be confiscated and only returned to a parent, not the child. Thank you for your support with this.
Gardening Day: Eva is holding a potter in the gardens session, pruning, weeding and tidying to make the gardens look nice for the Summer Fair on Sunday 23rd June from 10-12pm. Do please come along, gardening is good for the soul!
Monday’s Cake and Plant Sale. Thank you to the parents/carers and children who made cakes or brought in plants to sell, all the parents/carers who came and bought the cakes and plants on the day; it was a huge success. However, without the parents who helped sell on the day and the Year 6 children who helped with making cakes and selling, it would not have been such a smooth affair – it was a real team effort! We raised over £700 which will be used to get 10 new trees for the school and local area. Thank you.
LAMDA showcase years 1, 2 & 3: Our Year 4,5 and 6 LAMDA pupils treated parents with their wonderful renditions from famous poets such as Spike Milligan and Steve Turner during our LAMDA Showcase. This was an excellent opportunity to perform their poems before they take their LAMDA exams at the end of June at LAMDA Drama School.
All the pupils have been working incredibly hard over the course of the year and brought so much expression to their performances. We wish the Years 1, 2 and 3 luck for their Showcase today, and to those taking their exams in a few days' time.
This week's visits:
Jo G & Crystals went to the British Museum on Thursday, as part of their history topic about ancient Egypt. There were so many incredible ancient Egyptian artefacts to take in whilst exploring the incredible room 4, including mummies of both people and animals and the incredible Rosetta Stone which had enabled hieroglyphics to be deciphered. Everyone was amazed at all the wonderful things they saw and felt it had really helped them to better understand life in ancient Egypt.
Nina: I really liked seeing the decorations on the pottery and drawing them on our papers and having lunch in the gardens.
Rafi: I liked the decoration of the museum and the atmosphere.
Edith: I liked doing the quests in the booklet. That was really fun.
To finish off my newsletter this week I have some very exciting news. Magda who joined us in January as Breakfast Club Lead has been appointed as our Extended Services Manager. She will, for the summer term, be doing a few hours to familiarise herself with our systems and put plans together ready for her official start in September. She is planning, prior to her start in September, to introduce herself to you all and am sure you will join me in welcoming her to the Kilmorie family.
I do hope you are enjoying the sunshine and I look forward to welcoming you all back on Monday.
Kind regards
Julie
