On Monday we sent an email to all nursery parents, and now I include that message here. Fiona has not returned to school since the Christmas holidays and has been greatly missed. Please read Fiona’s words below.
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you are all well and settled back into the routines of 2025!
We wanted to let you know why I have not been in since the start of term. Earlier this month, I was diagnosed with having cancer of the tongue. Thankfully, it seems to have not spread, which is very good news! However, due to the nature of the cancer and its location, I will be having major surgery at the end of January. Subsequently, I will be off for at least the next 3 months to enable me to prep for surgery and then recover fully.
Luckily, you have the rest of the amazing Nursery team to do what they do best and I'm sure they will give me the odd update of how everyone is doing! I will miss everyone immensely and look forward to returning when it's all a bit warmer and sunnier and the children are a bit taller and a bit cheekier!
If your children do ask any questions, and you're not sure what to say, I have phrased it with my own (although they are a bit older), that a small part of my tongue has cancer (is not well) and that part will need to be taken out and rebuilt! This has been far more palatable for me and them! I hope this might be helpful.
So, have a wonderful few months, smile lots, laugh often and hug a tree when you can.
Warmest wishes,
Fiona
