Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that you all had a good ½ term and the children had a good rest. As always, we have had a busy but good week back as we start the second half of the year.

In assembly, Kate introduced our Rights Respecting Schools journey to the children during this week’s assemblies. She explained what children’s rights are, what UNICEF is responsible for and talked about what it means to be a UNICEF Rights Respecting School. This means that they will learn what their rights are, which will involve them exploring how to make Kilmorie the best possible place for children to learn, play and grow - a place where everyone respects each other and treats each other fairly. The Pupil Parliament members for each committee were introduced because they will be working with a group of adults to make decisions, but it was emphasised that everyone is part of this. The children will learn about the CRC articles through assemblies, during their PSHE lessons and by linking articles to themes and events that happen throughout the year. Next week, we will link our World Book Day activities to Article 17 (access to information from the media), Article 29 (goals of education) and Article 31 (leisure, play and culture). We intend to provide regular updates in the newsletter about the articles we are focussing on, our RRSA journey and ways you can also get involved.

This week’s class assembly was taken by Vicky’s class. They taught us about sound with a particular focus on people who have a hearing impairment. They taught us about British Sign Language and demonstrated how to sign the alphabet, their names and sang / signed “This is me” from the Greatest Showman. The final message of the assembly was that we all hear in our unique way.

I would like to wish our Muslim community a good holy month of Ramadan.

If your child is fasting during this special time please could you let their class teacher know.

Treefrogs (Year 1)

Ada - I would like to celebrate Ada for respecting our school rules and for being a kind friend to others.

Rory - I would like to celebrate Rory for his engagement during RE. Rory confidently shared facts about the Islamic Faith.

Tyson - I would like to celebrate Tyson for his engagement during our RE lesson.

Fabian - Thank you for being such a ray of sunshine in our class! Thank you for also being such a fab role model; you are kind, helpful, and always put so much effort into your learning.

Isla - Well done for your fantastic work in maths this year. I have been really impressed with how confident you are becoming when explaining mathematical reasoning.

Sarah R - (Year 4)

Frensiss: For his resilience with his work, especially with his writing.

Alarnie: For the work she has put in learning her times tables and her hard work in maths. Trish is pleased with the progress she is making with her reading.

Useful SEND information around neurodivergence for parents, by parents on our Kilmorie website

A while ago, some very knowledgeable contributors put together a great piece of work about neurodiversity and the way neurodivergence can affect a child and their wider family life. It includes lived experiences and supportive suggestions from those families, as well as signposting to services that offer advice. Gardening Update

Last year at a cake sale we raised money for new trees for the school, over half-term these trees were planted. Eight were in the school grounds, two on Elsinore Road and one on Kilmorie Road. There are a variety of species planted, and we will enjoy the blossom and especially the beautiful, coloured leaves over the coming years. A big thank you to Clare Connor who has worked with Street Trees for Living to make this possible. These trees will bring shade, beauty and a habitat for insects and birds.
