Year Three
Welcome to the Year 3 area. In Year 3 children become more independent and mature. They begin to show genuine empathy for others and start putting others first in situations where they haven’t done before.
At this stage children develop the ability to consider the intent behind an action or choice, along with the ability to take another’s perspective. Their play becomes more sophisticated and their friendships become stronger.
Children’s thinking skills become highly developed, as their concentration and use of advanced language increases. They become more aware of their skills and competences, and how they feel about these can affect how they feel about themselves, which in turn can influence what challenges they’re willing to take on.
Increased self-criticism is common at this stage, a natural by-product of their developmental advancements.
In Year 3 children learn exciting topics such as: ‘The Stone Age’, ‘Their Local Area’, and ‘The Egyptians’. These topics provide them with many opportunities to apply their growing enquiry and analytical skills.
