Curriculum

Drama

Drama is an integral part of our curriculum and school life, in terms of lessons in class, class assemblies and in-school productions. All children from years 1 to 6 take part in our end-of-year production with opportunities for those who want to, to participate in the behind-the-scenes work for the production through costume, make-up, set design, props and lighting and sound.

At Kilmorie, children are exposed to multiple areas of The Arts rather than solely focusing on performers. They have the opportunity to experience the different roles that are within The Arts, which in turn means they are introduced to a variety of people from different backgrounds and cultures. This ensures they are able to see themselves represented as people and as learners so that all learning styles and abilities are celebrated.

In Year 4, all children take part in the Story Seeker project with the National Theatre and in Year 5 all children take part in the Let’s Play project with the National Theatre. Drama is used throughout the curriculum at Kilmorie to further embed, immerse and deepen the children’s understanding of the topic.

From September 2023, we will also be offering children the opportunity to take part in LAMDA classes where they will achieve a qualification and take part in local festivals and performances.
